CAT Technology

We use computer-aided translation incorporating modern translation software such as SDL Trados, Transit, Across, and others like MetaTexis.

Technical documentation is, quite simply, a summary of the documents dealing with a description of the technical product. Technical documentation is characterized by its systematic and structured layout. Services in the field of technical documentation aim at creating a single, qualitative, valuable system in which all the sub-field of technical documentation can be merged into a meaningful " whole". In addition to well-prepared technical documentation, there are other important aspects like technical editing, technical illustration and transfer of know-how.

Each type of technical documentation is subject to a complex communication process. If this process does not adhere to certain rules, there can be a loss of quality and/or information.

We offer

Our company, hoping to satisfy its many and varied customers, translates specialised texts from many areas. We offer professional translations for the automotive industry, general engineering, energy and low-current audio and video technology. When translating, our translators are able discuss their translations with experts in relevant fields. We do not risk giving documents to translators who may not have enough experience and enough knowledge in a particular field. Our work is our responsibility.

The automotive industry

The automotive industry is central to the development of the economy of the Slovak Republic, and this particular industry, in turn, impacts on others*. The growth of the foreign automobile production industry is still a big factor for the wider European economy. There remains a need for high quality products, specifically in the private car sector, and effective processes of quality control to ensure competitiveness not only in Europe but also in the global market..

Techdoc, Ltd., for these very reasons, places emphasis on providing a translation capacity specifically for this segment of industry. Since our establishment, we have been working for car manufacturers in our market, and for general importers of different brands. We have produced, and still produce, many guides, service manuals, and study materials, which are in use by a wide service network of manufacturers. As a result of this cooperation, we have been able to keep up with the constantly increasing technological and quality levels to deal with the latest technologies that are used in this ever-advancing industry. Last year we provided our customers with the complete package. What they want is what they get.

The area of Information Technology

In Information Technology we provide services which cover: Internet, telecommunications, software, graphics applications, e-business, network and data transmissions, etc. Our team of qualified specialists is composed of a Project Manager for this area, professional translators, and proofreaders. All these people work as a team which specializes in Information Technology. We work only with translators who are familiar with the field of IT and we make full use of glossaries specific to the area under consideration.

Computer-aided translation (CAT)

Computer aided translation (CAT for short) is a translation of the text supported by computer, but without the text being translated by the computer itself (that would be called "machine translation").

The most widely used software tools include commercial CAT, SDL Trados, Transit, and others. Our translators, in their work, use these tools because our customers have learned that translation incorporating these technologies is much more economical. These programs operate using a translation memory and terminology databases.

Translation Memory is a multilingual database storing original and translated texts as translation pairs. In some instances one can employ the pair without having to re-translate. Many technical, advertising, marketing (and other) publications have text which is characterised by common features, and there is frequent repetition. It is, therefore, preferable to use already translated text stored in the translation memory. If a small change occurs, the text is easily ammended.

Programs that use a translation memory are available in a wide range of input formats. This feature is useful in reducing unnecessary effort if the original has already been created.

Terminology

Terminology refers to the science of naming objects and concepts in specific fields, and it involves both creating and defining those terms (and linking them with synonyms). Terms are usually connected with professional or practical endeavours.

A Terminology Database is a set of these terms stored on the server platform, which includes nomenclature, standardized terms, together with identification information of the source. The use of such databases is wide. They are used as a singular reference or multilingual dictionary reference (an amalgam of dictionaries), as a means of checking the correct use of terms and expressions, as well as an additional tool for information and documentation technology.

Our company creates these databases using standard napr.SDL Multiterm or Transit TermStar, but it has also set up an internal company reference SQL database platform from which required data can be exported, and this serves as a support for our external translators.
